"I've barely raced this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," stated Hodgkinson. "The atmosphere out there is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable." The women-only meet filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a festive vibe to traditional track, with musical performances and special crowns substituting traditional winners' medals. The 23-times tennis major winner Serena Williams, who is married to Athlos founder Alexis O., was on hand to award the winners with their tiaras. Last year's winners received sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in athletics. The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, finishing in 4:17.78.
